Mama Told Me, to Cut Healthcare Cost. You Better Shop Around!

September 3, 2009

Because of a sudden illness to my brother and because he had no health insurance, I found out a few things that should piss every person that pays for their own health insurance off.

You can shop around every state in the union for all types of insurance, all types except Health Insurance. You can get Auto Insurance from anther state, the same with Home Owners, and so on. However, when it comes to Health Insurance those companies are allowed to have a monopoly.

We could save tons of money if we were allowed to look across state lines and not just the state we live in. Their are over 1,300 Health Insurance companies in the United States, and only one or two in any given state.

The reason given for this injustice is, regulations differ from state to state, or so we are told. The biggest reason is because the Insurance companies lobby on the state and federal level to keep it that way. However, corporations don’t have to abide by those rules. There was an exemption added for them. Also bigger companies underwrite their own policies, and are overseen by an insurance company.

Now I know this might not take care of the whole Healthcare problem, but it would help those of us that are overwhelmed by the cost of healthcare. So what is needed is, for the federal government to takeover the regulatory process of health insurance.

It seems that millions want to allow the government handle the whole kit-n-caboodle, why not just let them change one rule and save us money now, then work on it from there. Instead of all the protest telling the administration to leave it alone, lets start telling them to change the regulations and let the people shop around the country for health insurance. We need to educate the people, because hardly anyone knows of this.

If you want to know more about this problem with our health insurance system here is an article that goes deeper into it. 20smoney.com
