It’s That Time Again, Dump The U.S. P.A.T.R.I.O.T. ACT Previsions.

March 29, 2009

There are previsions of The U.S. P.A.T.R.I.O.T. ACT that sunset in December of this year. The one that cause the most disturbing possibilities is a “Electronic Sneak and Peak”. It allows Government entities to spy on citizens by tagging banking records, electronic communications, and travel records, without telling the person under investigation. Senator Cardin of Maryland said, his agents use the prevision 220 times between 2004 and 2007

FBI Director Robert Muller urged congress to revise the section, saying that it is an important part of the Patriot Act. While privacy advocates (like myself) can see the slippery slope that has been created, and was used by the Bush administration when they were caught spying on US citizens. Let us not forget that Obama voted to allow it when he voted not to let the telecommunication companies be sued for spying for the government.

The measure allows investigators probing terrorism to seek a suspect’s records from third parties such as financial services and travel and telephone companies without notifying the suspect. The American Civil Liberties Union has criticized the provision, saying it violates the First Amendment rights of U.S. citizens.

The Patriot Act has been a disaster for the rights of the American citizenry since its inception shortly after 9-11-2001. However, it is not just The Patriot Act that is the problem. There are laws that have been passed under the 109th congress, that are in place to back The Patriot Act incase it is allowed to sunset.

In My Opinion

After the election last November I told people that I would give Obama a chance if he did away with PD51, and a few other Executive orders that endangered our rights, and allow for the possibility of a dictatorship once martial law was invoked. By Dictatorship I mean, PD-51 gives the Executive Branch control over all three branches of the government in the event of a national emergency, that can only be called by the President, and only he can call it off.

When ask about retracting some of the Directives, and Orders that were either written or expanded by the Bush administration, the Obama administration said that they would look at every Signing Statement made by Bush. However, this does not mean anything as a Signing Statement, is nothing more than an opinion of that President on that bill. They were mostly used before Bush to thank and recognize those who worked on the bill.

So, in my opinion this proves that we have to rip apart everything said by Obama, because he has shown that he practices deception with his words. With that in mind, stay alert, and stay free.
