Mexico is Now Feeling the Pain of NAFTA. However it Goes Deeper

February 2, 2008

It seems that the Mexican people are getting a taste of the problems that the NAFTA trade agreement has caused the US for over a decade. In 1993, Bill Clinton signed the “North American Trade Agreement” into law, with the promise that it would create more U.S. jobs. The affect was anything but. We were told at the time that the number of jobs that would go south of the border would be minimal. What happened was that it opened the door for countries to move to Mexico and beyond.

What is happening in Mexico is, the tariffs have been lifted off corn from the U.S., which is hurting the Mexican farmers. Therefore, to show their displeasure with the happenings, tens of thousands took to the streets protesting and clogging traffic in Mexico City on Wednesday. By Thursday, the number of police was brought up too 1,500. However for the most part the protest remained peaceful, with some tempers flaring on Wednesday when the traffic first stopped.

While it was mostly peaceful, there was some tension late Wednesday when a column of slow-moving tractors ground to a reluctant halt before a phalanx of anti-riot police that barred access to the Zocalo, the city’s main square.
By late Thursday, however, the protest was allowed to move on Zocalo, where organizers said some 50,000 people congregated, while police put the crowd estimate taken by helicopter at between 20,000 and 25,000.

The three governments are refusing to renegotiate the NAFTA previsions that will cause more hardships on the Mexican farmers. The tariffs on, Sugarcane, and Milk, products are going to be lifted also. This on top of the 20,000 dollar year subsidies compared to the Mexicans getting 700 dollars, added to the mounting fuel, fertilizer, and electricity cost which farmers claim covers 60% of their cost, will kill them.

Can You Say NAU?

With out going on a rant, (Which I have been known to do on this subject.) You can see the North American Union all over this move. What is being done is, different strengths of each country are being targeted and weakened. In Mexico, it is the farmer, for the moment. The U.S. economy is weakening, while Canada has seen its economy strengthen to match that of the U.S. economy.

One of the plans of the North American Union is join all three economies, creating one economy controlled by the corporations, which in their eyes will allow the North American Union to compete in the New World Order. Another plan is to create one military, which will secure the continental borders instead of an individual country border.

To someone who has not been following the North American Union/SPP, this would seem like something out Orwell’s 1984. However, to understand this more, I recommend reading the CFR manual “Building the North American Community”. This will give you some insight on what is happening. Also remember, they never come right out and say what they mean.
